Lake Natron

Lake Natron is a unique and striking lake in northern Tanzania, located near the border with Kenya at the base of Ol Doinyo Lengai, an active volcano known as the “Mountain of God” by the local Maasai people.

The lake is famous for its bright red and orange colors, caused by minerals and salt-loving microorganisms. It is very alkaline (salty), which means most animals cannot survive in its waters. However, it is one of the most important breeding sites in the world for flamingos, especially the lesser flamingo.

The area around Lake Natron is dry, hot, and dramatic, with wide open plains, volcanic landscapes, and beautiful views of the Rift Valley. Despite its harsh conditions, it offers a truly unique and unforgettable scenery.

What make the lake Natron famous and unique;

• You will able to watching thousands of flamingos along the lake

• Visiting nearby waterfalls and natural springs called ngaresero Waterfalls

• Climbing Ol Doinyo Lengai for an adventurous experience to the top of the mount

• Experiencing Maasai culture in nearby villages
