Mikumi National Park

Nestled between the Uluguru Mountains and the vast wilderness of southern Tanzania, Mikumi National Park is one of Tanzania’s most accessible and rewarding safari destinations. Often compared to the Serengeti for its expansive open plains, the park offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities throughout the year.

Mikumi is home to a rich variety of wildlife, including elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, wildebeests, hippos, crocodiles, and numerous antelope species. The park’s famous Mkata Floodplain provides spectacular game viewing experiences, where animals can often be seen grazing against a backdrop of rolling hills and acacia dotted savannah.

Bird enthusiasts will also delight in the park’s impressive birdlife, with over 400 recorded species ranging from colorful lilac-breasted rollers to majestic fish eagles. Its diverse habitats, including grasslands, woodlands, wetlands, and seasonal rivers, create a thriving ecosystem that supports an abundance of flora and fauna.

Whether you are seeking a short safari from Dar es Salaam or a gateway to Tanzania’s Southern Circuit, Mikumi National Park offers an authentic African wilderness experience with breathtaking landscapes, remarkable wildlife encounters, and unforgettable safari adventures.
